Requires special education and English learner training for teacher candidates

Starting in 2027, teacher preparation programs must add practicum hours on serving students with disabilities and English learners, and students must pass an end-of-program assessment set by the Department of Education. Applicants for special education teaching licenses must also complete a required state course.

A bill for an act relating to teacher education and licensing, including by modifying provisions related to practitioner preparation programs and licenses issued by the board of educational examiners.(Formerly SSB 3048.)
